Engine Noise: High pitch squeeking

Recommended Posts

2001 boxster S, 44K miles

Hi all. About 1K miles ago, I noticed a very sublte squeeking noise when the car is idle.- it is very faint and rythmic It sounds like it is coming from the bottom rear of the engine - um maybe. It does not increase in frequency with acceleration as far as I can tell, nor is it affected by turning on or off the A/C.

I don't notice any performance degradation, but being that it just appeared, I am concerned - want to be preventative if possible.

I would like some advice (things to test or look for) before blindly dropping at the dealer or import shop.

Thanks.

If no one nails it with a common problem. Try the oldest trick in the book, if you’ve got it narrowed down to the basic vicinity already. Get a hose of a couple feet. Stick one end of the hose in your ear and probe around the other end likea stethoscope.
