Radar Mounting Escort 8500 X50

Recommended Posts

I have had an X50 Blue LED radar detector for a few years now and it has always worked well. Since getting a 987S 2007, I decided to try a new mounting location. I purchased a cell phone mount with a large suction cup and placed it onto the back windscreen insert (plastic) located between my seats such that the detectors rear is almost touching the insert. I also programed the detector such that it is completely dark so no one can see the blue LEDs in the rear. I don't need to see the detector because each mode emits a different sound.

So my question is do you think that I will lose sensitivity of radar detection from the front of the vehicle since it's not mounted directly on the front windshield? I did take a test drive and it seemed to pick up the grocery stores door openers fairly well.

Thanks

Will post pictures later.

double the speed limit and see if you get caught hehe

but yeah, you will loose some sensitivity.

With the help of a dremel tool, I bent some tin and made a bracket that slid under the frame on the windshield. It doesn't bounce much, and is above the mirror.
