Tail Light Upgrade- Hard To Decide!

Merry Christmas to U all

It is probably the easiest thing to do on a 986,should be on your manual

remove carpeting covering the tail light

unscrew 4 - 8mm mounting nuts , tail light should be pulled right out

press the mounting tab of the bulb/socket holder, make sure to put the gasket back in its place!

I dunno guys... IMOHO - I feel the best looking lights are the Litronic headlights and retrofit taillights with the clear third brake light. I think it just looks more sharp that way, at least on my silver Boxster S.

Also, if anyone knows of anyone who wants the OEM lights, I have em... 100% working not a scratch on em. Need to get rid of em' they've been taking up too much space in my garage ;)

Checkout this site, you can get the 3rd Brake light in either Clear Or Smoked. I chose the clear cause I thought it would match everything else better. This is the site I got it from, received it in 3 days USPS.

I'll PM you about the headlights.

Has anyone tried these in real life....

I've got the same lights but in clear/chrome rather than black. They're like a 10 minute install and work same as stock pretty much. The only thing that I did different is jumper the wire between the fog lights and brake lights so that the fog lights now come on with the brake lights. The rear "fog" lights with these LED tails are actually bright red LED's, so they work great in conjunction with the red LED brake lights. Without doing that though I thought the brake lights were a little lacking in impact.

Neither of those lights are technically legal because the do not have DOT on them, with or without the tint. They are euro amber lights that were tinted in Germany.

Henry had a bunch of lights and we tried them on Aileen's black Boxster a few years ago. To make the bulbs brighter Henry came up with the idea of replacing the single filament bulbs with dual filament bulbs.

I like the license plate frame..."Life is a Cabernet." That works!

Has anyone tried these in real life....

I have these in chrome too, got them off of ebay for about $200 (for that much I figured i give it a try) and i found that while the lights work great, they did not sit as flush to the contour of the car as the OEM did. By this i mean, there was a 1cm gap between where the body curve meet the light curve. What I ended up doing was filing the inner light housing it better so that it sat better in area for it...aka I made it fit.

Now I just have to wire it so the fogs come on when breaking like Bristol did.

I looked at the Spyder lights and really liked them but decided to go with the Ebay LED smoke and red lights and like them on my Arctic Silver Boxster. They are DOT approved and are legal in California. The LED's really light up when the brakes are put on much brighter than the OEM and the tail lights are also much brighter.

I have the same setup as you, the only thing i would like is to also have my normal tail lights in led aswell any options is this? also i run into this problem that i have the DEPO tails, when i connect the LED 3rd brake light my cruisecontrol stops working .... when i put the red orginal one back cruise works again! .....any idea's or solutions anyone?

If you do a search here you will find that LED stop lights cause problems because there is not enough resistance in the circuit. Most folks have to add in a resister or go back to the bulb type 3rd stop light.

I had the same problem when I went to an LED third light and as stated you will have to add a resister to get your CC to operate properly. To figure out which resister you will need to measure the circuit and cut one in where the harness connects to the third light. I've decided to play around with window coatings instead to see if I can't get something that works and matches.

Nobody seems to be able to tell me how much Ohm the resister must be, i tried a standard turnsignal (6ohm) one but it was not enough to make it work...if anyone knows.....
