Just had mine done in San Jose at a test only place that also does my 1988 Toyota pickup. I do not know in your area. Since your car is newer than my 1997 Boxster you should be able to go to a test only, or test and repair place. Look at your DMV renewal notice.

Hi, all. My 2002 C2 is due for a smog check. Can any of you recommend at reliable smog check station in the Bay Area, preferably in the East Bay? TIA.

I have used Harry's in Pleasanton. They are Gold certified and have a test-only station as well. A few years ago, I got my '93 BMW tested from somewhere else and it failed, and then I took it to them and it passed. This year, I had to get my catalytic converter (same car) changed. Went to them (thru CAP) and no complaints.

Thanks, akif. Does anyone else have a recommendation?

Well it turns out that one of the local independent gas stations can do smog checks (on the dyno). The operator was very helpful and knew about smoging Porsches. My car required only the test. I passed and was in-and-out within a half-hour. No hassles, no problems. I was charged $79.95 for the test and the certificate.
