Squeaking noise and loss of coolant

Recommended Posts

My 1998 Boxster (986) has a problem or problems that I'm trying to get a handle on before I take it in this Saturday to the Porsche garage in Exeter.

Heard a squeaky/whiney kind of noise coming from the engine area - then the coolant light started flashing.

Coolant was very low, so I topped up with 50% mix - light went off (I've never had to do this before).

Checked out with Durametric and had no fault codes.

Still have whining noise, and also I'm now smelling a burning kind of odour coming from, it seems, the right hand side of the car.

Don't know if the coolant issue and the whining issue are linked or coincidental (I don't normally believe in coincidence!)

I have 107,000 miles on it.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks!

Bob

I had the water pump go unexpectedly on my '00 S. Now if this is your problem, make sure your technician fills, burps, and refills the coolant reservoir. With the rads so far from the engine, my red overheat light kept going off. Scared the hell outta me. Need 4-5 top ups before everthing was full. Two years later, no problems.

;)
