Hood stuck

Went out to check the oil on my 01 carrera 4 that I just bought a few days ago. I pushed the hood release, it made a mechanical sound which seemed normal. So I went around to open the hood and it was still shut. Pushed the hood release a few more time and it was still shut. I tried ever so gently hitting the area near the hood release, but that still didn't work.

Any ideas as to what's going on?

I have a replacement front hood latch along with a new cable that I bought for my 996 before it caught fire....if you need a new latch I'll let the whole assembly go very reasonably.....this is the mechanical release, not the electronic one....right?

After some more liberal elbow hits to the trunk, it came loose and opened. After I got it opened I adjusted the two springs on either side of the trunk lid. Screwed them out a little to provide more resistance.

Worked!
