New DVD Navigation Install

I ordered my kit from LOI last week, and ordered a sony unit just yesterday when futureshop had the special on it.

Question, mine is a 2001 with the DSP unit, i want to keep the DSP unit, so my current coniguration is

Climate control

Factory deck

Tape holder

DSP

I want my new configuration to be

Sony deck (Double din)

DSP

Climat control

The DSP has the same measurement as the climate control width and height wise, depth is only about 1 cm, but i notice that the third slot doesn't quite fit either the DSP or the climate control, I notice a lot of people have suggested that it will fit, am i missing some steps?

Hi there godwine,

I am not familiar with the DSP, however as it fits in the last slot, then it would have the same 'fitting structure' as the climate control. This being the case, you would need to get creative with the DSP and the cubby hole.

I originally placed the climate control in the bottom slot as I was too scared to 'hack' the slot above, but after getting annoyed with the stick getting in the way every time I wanted to alter the temp, I built the courage to approach the movement of the units.

I refer you to the Installation Instructions found on Page 2 of this thread and unfirtunately, I have to agree that it is a hack and not for the faint hearted. I say this as you literally hack the cubby hole to fit the unit. Again, I need to preface that I am expecting the DSP has the same fitting 'structure' as the climete control.

Happy installing and hope the above helps.

Cheers

Looking at the install picture where it talks about having the metal from the 2 DIN housing stick past the plastic 13/16 inch - does that also apply to a 2003 996 turbo? Doing this soon and want to have the head unit sticking out the right amount. Thanks for the help!
