Porsche Entry and Drive Option - Is it worth the high cost?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I've ordered a new Cayenne with the Entry and Drive option (as well as a lot of other options).

In Japan, the option costs about $1900 US.

Do you think this is really worth the high cost, or is there some other option that you would recommend instead?

Do you like this feature? Is it useful?

Thank you for your time

Fred

I like it. I don't know if I'd pay almost $2k for it. But, I'm really glad my car has it. It's very nice when it's raining or snowing.

AVIA8R,

Thanks for the reply. I agree, it would be nice... but that price is making me think twice.

Are there any other opinions out there?

Fulmer,

For that price, I would skip it. I've actally had a couple of electronic gremlins that we think might be linked to the Entry and Drive. So, I would suggest putting that $2k into some nice wheels.

I can't think of any other options that I would highly suggest. I do like the parking assist. But, any Cayenne with whatever option will be a great car. Enjoy!! I know how exciting it is to get a new car.

I've had it in my other cars, and LOVE it.

You just grab the handle and it opens, no need to fiddle with the fob, press the unlock, then insert the key.

Wish they had the push start system as others do, but the turn the fake key is still better than the real thing.

My GTS doesn't have the option becuase the car was built before I could change/add the option.

If I could have installed it, I would have, but you will manage without it.

If it works correctly many seem to like it.

But like some others, mine had endless electronic gremlins on my '04 CTT, so when I got my '08 GTS I did not have it installed.

I have had them in past cars, and I think it is OK, but not spectacular. IMHO, for 2K, I would get other items. I do not have it in my 08 either, I opted to get the nav etc.

My wife's Nissan Murano has the keyless feature at a no-cost standard feature. $2000 is pathetic, but expected, from Porsche. She loves the feature. I personally dislike it. If we are going somewhere in the Murano together I tend not to carry the 2nd keyfob with me since she'll have one in her purse. also, as with the Cayenne, the Nissan's keyfob is just too large to add to my keychain. If I drive and drop her off somewhere (like the mall) and forget to grab the key from her then the **** car starts beeping like crazy and I have to open the windows and scream at her to stop and give me the key. I know that sounds dramatic but it happens alot.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

The more and more I think about it, the more I think I'll pass on it.

$2000 US is way to high for this feature. I will probably get some other option instead ;-)

Is it possible to install Entry and Drive post-factory? Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry to say, I highly doubt you could have it installed without a substantial cost. There's antennas that are installed in the driver's seat (to detect key to allow starting of engine), another in the door (unsure of exact location) that detect the key to allow you to open the doors and also entennas in the hatch area that actually detect the key incase you lay it in the back hatch and try to lock the doors. It's a pretty elaborate system, thus the high price from the factory (about $2k I think).

I have the system and like it. It can be a little trempermental at times, but I'm glad I have it. Though, I doubt I would pay the initial cost if I was ordering the car new. It just happen to have it when I purchsed it.

Sorry, probubly not the answer you wanted. I know, I've looked into installing the in-dash compass, TPMS, and heated stearting wheel and had to give up all those due to un-justifiable high cost.

Have a good day.

Matt,

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, the antennae will probably be expensive. As long as the system doesn't require replacing control modules, I suppose it will only be moderately expensive (it hurts, just not as bad). There seems to be many posts on the site about problems with Entry and Drive.

Enjoy the game!

Gavin
