City Light bulbs? which ones?

What is a city light? If it is a parking light in combination with the factory HID, you need a small ( expensive, special and short life ) halogen bulb, the exact bulb type is in your service manual.

City lights are the small lights inside the headlamp. They turn on when you turn the position lights on and/or stay on if you forget your lights on after you take your key out of ignition.

I checked the popular sylvania bulb page but couldn't see anything that i would interpret as those... i'll be pulling the lights apart to put in my HID's shortly, so wanted to swap those out for some whiter lights at the same time

I know what you're talking about - I got matching city lights and side lights. They are leds, I'll tell you where I got mine from when I get home, I can't remember the website. In any event, they match exactly the hue of my HIDs. The only problem is that the led head is slightly wider than the factory bulb head. I ended up sanding down the hole to be able to fit the leds through (headlights only, side markers were just wide enough to fit).

Thanks azzarO, city/park/possition light, different names for the same bulb.

NP - they're the same thing :) I call them position lights, but I've seen people refer to them as 'city lights'. Must be a British term :P

Here you go:

I ordered 2 pairs of those and I replaced the city lights and the side lights (I have clear side markers). They all match the HIDs now.

Good luck,

i think those LEDS gonna be off a bit, super xenon bulbis rated at 4100K temperature but LEDs may not even be 3000K?

let us know how they work out.

I'd like to see azzaro's pic to see how they are matching?

thanks.. apparently the 5w5 is the same as the sidemarker and courtesy door lights which is a 194...

i'm gonna get these:

i just purchased some 5000k HID's so they should be pretty close

I'll take pictures some time soon and post them. My daughter has the digital camera and the phone camera doesn't do justice..

These are very close to the ones I got, but mine are a little more blueish, which matches my HIDs. Since you have a lower temp HID then these would probably work just fine.

Take pictures and let us all know how it comes out :)

will definitely take pics to show you

as a comparison, i have a pic of when i upgraded the rest of my lights to LED... you can see normal bulb-color in my trunk lit up and the LED in my license plate... i think the difference there will be similar to the difference in regular h7 bulbs and the 5000k hid h7's

What bulb / size did you use for the license plate and where did you get it from?

I've been trying to find one to match but I don't want to spend too much experimenting

Thanks,

azzar0.

i think there's another post i made here on RT with LED info, if you search my posts...

i got it from ebay user cal-motor ... it's a festoon LED... they come in 37mm, 39mm, and then the next one whch is i think 41mm... i believe the license plate is 2 x 37mm ... the trunk (front and rear) are each 1 x 41mm

In these pictures the HIDs look greenish! But in reality they are blueish, and they match the side lights very well:

nice match! azzaro. what was the temperature rating on your HID?

1 x H7 6000K Automobile HID Kit from CQLights

Are you experiencing any problems when the lights are turned on...such as idiot lights on your instrument panel coming on when hjeadlights are switched on??? I have the same kit. Trouble since day one.

Something to think about - when replacing the city lights just double check what you've actually got first. Most Boxsters seem to have 5W5 or 194 bulbs - same as the side markers. But my litronics use an H6 city light bulb for some reason.... I'm not sure when or why Porsche changed that, but there are some differences out there.

No problems with the instrument panel, idiot lights never came on before or after I installed the kit.
