You can remove these ads by becoming a Contributing Member.

Do a search here for the reset procedure (which involves reversing the battery for a few seconds).

If that doesn't work then you likely need a new remote (check with Sunset Imports for the best price I've seen).

this happened to me one month ago

here are the steps i took to resolve:

- make sure you have a good battery

- remove and reverse the placement of the battery in the key (reverse the poles to reset)

- hold the door "lock/unlock" button down for a few seconds

- remove the battery once again and put it in the "correct" way

- place key in the ignition

- hold the door "lock/unlock" button down while turning key to the "on" position

- remove key from the ignition and test

- your remote should be fully functional

if this procedure does not remedy the issue, a new remote will be required

I had the same problem with my '99 Boxster. I stopped by the dealership and they told me that the transmitters in the keys go bad. Both of my keys didn't work. They priced me a key at around $210.00. I was already having some service done so I chose to have one of the keys replaced. I couldn't see spending over $400.00 on keys. I found out that each of the key head has what they call a "Pill" in it. It is the electronic device that will allow the car to start once it is in the ignition. Porsche reprogrammed my computer to accept the new key head and the two existing old ones just for safe measure.

I had the same problem recently with my key. A new battery wouldn't work. I then checked with an external 1.5 v source and the key would work. I soldered a new contact for the battery and it now works well.
