Boxster won't start ....sometimes UPDATE

Recommended Posts

Just cleaned the entire throttle body with MAF cleaner during tune up. I used a standard OBD-II scanner to pull the codes. Still driving daily and no problems except at fill up. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem?

UPDATE: I now have a P0446-EVAP canister shutoff valve (function). I can clear it and it goes away for a few days. Could this be related to my problem? Isn't it located behind the RH fender?

Any other info is greatly appreciated!

Thanks again,

Chris

If you figure this one out let me know. I sometimes have the same problem, Engine will spin but won't start. After a try or two it starts and will go for two or three weeks without incident. BUT...the 0446 code comes up on occassion. Sometimes it is in conjunction with this starting issue, sometimes not. I have looked through all of the forums and PPBB and I have yet to get to a point diagnostically to start taking things apart or ordering parts. I too use mine as a daily driver.

Good to know that I am not alone on this issue. I will keep digging and let you know if I find out anything. Will yours also start after fully depressing the gas pedal to the floor while spinning the motor?

Thanks,

Chris

P0446 (Porsche fault code 95) EVAP Canister Shutoff Valve (Function) - Below Lower Limit

The task of the shutoff valve is to seal the purge air line to the EVAP canister during the fuel tank leak test (at startup).

Potential causes:

- Bad gas cap seal

- Purge air line blocked.

- Flow resistance of EVAP canister too high.

Chris, Notice about a year ago you had the same issues as I have been having: Car occassionaly wont start; turns over but wont start. Current theory is that it might be moisture in the fuel. I also have P0446. I was having an occassional misfire. Debugged ignition, no problems there. Worst of problem is after rain. Put fresh fuel in and gas dry, and then it runs ok. But still have P0446. Did you ever get your's fixed? Thanks

Nope, I have replaced the fuel pressure switch, shut off valves and no luck. About the only thing left is the evap canister as there is some type of pressure issue still going on. Currently side tracked at the moment with a charging problem (wiring issue)...
