Hello! I'm taking my 04 Cayenne Turbo to the track. I have the Upsolute chip and 2ndary Cat Bypass pipes. What's the best way to launch......brake torque, if so, how many RPMs prior to release? Or is it just best to stomp on it?

Thanks,

Matt

Turn off PSM first!!! I've never taken mine to the track but I wouldn't think brake torquing the engine would hurt. Worked for an automatic car I had a few years back. Might take a little of the turbo lag out of the equation. Will the brakes hold it? Also, where does power peak with your tune? You might want to manually shift it to get the most out of the powerband and gearing. Sometimes autos like to upshift once they're getting over 80mph even though you're still WOT.

I was messing around with my 04 CTT and I was able to brake torque it and launch with the boost gauge(factory) reading 0.8 bar... took off like a bat out of hell....left the trans in manual and let it shift by it self.... i would NOT do this style of "sprinted" launching a lot b/c it cant be good on the trans... but man it sure was fun....hahaha

To clarify, you left it in MANUAL MODE (Shfiter in Left Side) and it still shifted at red-line?

I had read in the manual that it would shift at red-line if in Manual Mode but was scared to actaully try it.

so, it really does shift by itseft when in manual mode?

I went to the dragstrip last night and tried a few things. Best runs were brake torquing it to no less than 2000rpm with 2.0 60' times (slow by most standards) but without enough boost/rpm it would drop into the 2.2 second range. I was running 14.0 with said 2.2s, but once I figured out I needed to really crank on it off the line the best run was a 13.79@100.9mph. I put it into manual so it would start in 1st gear. For whatever reason it wanted to start off in 2nd gear in D. I tried manually shifting it, but the best mph was to just swap it back to auto right after the launch. No wheelspin, but I did take the PSM off line. It was also at the lower setting for ride height. Weight was 5695 with me in it - that's a lot! I'm in Houston and the temp was about 80 degrees. Mine's bone stock (450hp).

I ran my 2008 TT and the best time I got out of it was 1/4 mile - 12.19 sec @ 116 MPH. I tried several things like you and found that staging at around 2500 RPMs did the trick. I left the car in drive but used the steering wheel controls to drop it into 1st gear. I did a few mods and also ran the ole race fuel trick shown in my blog.
