Hi guys, i just signed onto this forum. I just bought my Cayenne S last month and already started with the issues. Noticed that there was some tranny fluid leaking. Upon inspection today it looks like its coming from the front pump seal. It is dripping out of the treaded hole under the tranny near the bell housing. Has anyone ever experienced this problem? I don't wanna burn a tranny because of low fluid. Does anyone have a write up on how to remove the tranny so i can do the seal? How many hours to re and re these trannies? thanks...Mike

TSB= Technical Service Bulletin

A TSB was issued in regards to this matter, you have to check with a Porsche dealer.

Is a TSB a recall as well?

From the Glossary at the top right of any page:

TSB Technical Service Bulletin. Porsche issues TSB's for part number changes, installation of options and accessories, approved oils, tires, wheels, etc. Recalls are NOT covered in TSB's.

How do i find out what the bulletin says? I went to my l ocal dealer today and they claim not to know about it. But then again my local dealer is known to be a crook

So I got the bulletin today. Is says in earlier models the transmission and torqu converter are to get replaced. Later models call for a shaft seal to be changed. Only refers to US models and US vins. My cayenne in canadian and from what i see its built in april 2003. Given that this just started happening i am assuming its just the seal. Any input on this guys? Shop manual calls for 7-9 hours for te re and re of te tranny.

Best to contact your local dealer with your V.I.N. number and they can tell you if the TSB applies to your vehicle or not. You need to determine if it is indeed the torque convertor seal or if the source of the leak is something else.

Acording to my local dealer there is no TSB issued on this matter...that is why i am asking members here for help.

I had the Cayenne checked out at my buddies tranny shop..They are almost certain it is the shaft seal for the torque converter. It also looks like a simple job for the re and re....will let u guys know how it fairs out in the next few weeks after i get it done..

Hey man I saw you had your seal replaced.. Mine just went out after the coolant pipes did. My question is did you take it to the dealer or individual mechanic? is there a special tool they need? my mechanic said he can do it but he doent think he needs any special tools

When my coolant pipes let go, I replaced them myself. Fairly easy process. A week later I had the dreaded tranny leak. I took my CS to my indy mechanic. He charged me $1300 to replace the torque converter seal. There were no special tools required. They dropped the tranny and replaced the seal. I have seen other mechanics drop the engine/tranny unit at the same time to remove the tranny and fix it that way.

From what I can see in the service manual (section 37 35 19) and having just tried to remove the trans in the workshop, it looks like there are a number of special tools needed. Anyone with suggestions on how to get around the torque converter bolts without the special Porsche tools?

I don't particularly want to drop the engine and trans all at once - imho I think it's a bit much just to replace a $16 seal!
