Engine Compartment Fan Fuse

I have a 2004 GT3. I just came back from a track event and noticed that the engine compartment fan never came on. I read the formums about certain temperature conditions need to be meet for this fan to be activated. I am raising this issue because I had my radiator flush recently. I check my fuses and see that Row C #5 fuse is missing. In the fuse booklet it mentions Engine Compartment Fan (optional) 5 amp. I checked the owners manual and it talks about the engine compartment fan which is on the truck lid so I have to assume the fuse is missing. Any advice would be appreciated.

On US cars it is fused through the same fuse (and relay) as the emissions air blower - which is a 40 A fuse.

If the emissions blowers starts when the car is cold and runs for a couple of minutes then the fuse is good and I suspect either your engine compartment purge fan did not meet the criteria to turn on or the fan/wiring is bad.

I am back on this subject since I just returned from a DE event a week ago and I never heard the fan come on once I came off the track. I just started my car and let it sit for 15 minutes at idle. The outside temperature is 70F and the dash temperature gauges registered slightly over 180. I shut off the car and waited for 10 minutes during this entire time the fan never came on. Does this sound normal? I read your post from Rennlist (article 293438) that mentions switch on conditions and after running of engine when ignition is turn off. I did not have any way to measure the temperature of the engine compartment but I will tomorrow if this is necessary. Do you think I have a problem or should test in another way? Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

I removed the electrical connection to the purge fan and connected aligator clips to the deck light (12v) and the fan worked. Beside testing on the big$ equipment anything else I can check or do I take into the dealer?

You may be worrying too much.

The DME is supposed to turn that fan on and only long enough to clear the hot air in the engine compartment. I have only had mine come once or twice - and then only after coming off the track.

The only way to check to make sure it is working to spec is to use a PST2 or PIWIS to monitor the engine compartment temperature and then see if it turns on when it reaches the preset temperature - and it will never get there at idle or most normal driving conditions.
