Hi all

as some of you probably already know i own a 996 GT2 MY02. I buyed this car short time ago and was not fitted with PCCB Brakes.

The previous owner changed to steel (and destroyed even that) so that I had to change all disks and pads. Now the car has new steel discs and Pagid pads.

But personally i think that due to the fact that all GT2's had PCCB on stock, mine should have it too.

So i searched and searched and at the end I found a complete brake set on Ebay. The price was OK so I took it. Having zero experience with the PCCB discs they looked OK to me, so i was happy.

Now, after some looking at them I found out follwing:

The front discs are the newest available from Porsche, 3. Generation and look ..... let's say OK. The rear discs are Generation 1 and look... ugly.

I tried to post 2 pics, hope you can see them.

Are they ready for garbage or still usable?

Boldis,mine [2002GT2]look exactly the same on the rear.That is quite normal.The latest Gen 2 rotors [which I also have on the front] look different because they have many more fibres in them.The secret of keeping them in good shape particularly if you are going to do track work is to warm them up gradually so as not to pump too much heat in too quick[one lap should be enough]and then to do a cool down lap at the end without any braking if possible.On normal road work they rarely get hot enough to be an issue.

thank you for your answer. Meanwhile i have been told that when they look like this they have to be exchanged cause they could disappear in a dust cloud.... Not really a nice though.

About your front discs, you said you got new one's. Can you tell me what part number you got?

Even there I know that there are 3 different part numbers, ending with 2 (1.gen) 3 (2. gen) and 4 (3. gen). Apparently this final number differentiation is valid for front and rear discs.

Boldis,I am not so sure that your rear rotors are no good.If you check with Porsche they have a service bulletin which describes exactly how much pitting/delamination is acceptable before replacement is required.The part # for Gen 2 front rotors is 996 351 032 94 and 996 351 031 94.I bought mine 2 months ago.I don't believe there is a Gen 3.Ian
