Headlight nightmare

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I have a 2.7L 2000 with roughly 65k on her (bertha). My Passanger side headlight has completly sh!t the bed on me. So about a month ago I noticed that only low beam worked out of that headlamp! Signal, high beam and fog/driving lamp where all not working.

So, I cheacked the fuses, they seemed fine. I pulled that headlight and checked the male to female connection, again all seemed fine. So I ran down to the local auto parts store and bought the a headlight and signal blub.

Then I carefully installed the blubs making sure everything was clean dry etc etc.

Put the key in the igintion... and .....

NOTHING WORKS NOW!

I sucessfull spent several hours and about $60 to make my headlight WORSE! Ughh

So before I take the car to the dealer what should I check or recheck..... What did I miss?

If you remove the plastic inner wheel well, you can see and feel the conector on the back side of the headlight, check for proper fitment and contact, wiggle a little with the connector ( with headlights on ) and look if the bulbs comes in.

A couple of weeks ago I changed to the higher performance headlight bulbs and when i re-installed the headlights only the RH light worked. i pulled out and re fitted the LH one several times before I noticed that although the fixed connector in the headlamp shell looked solid it was loose.

There was no way the connector on the headlight was going to make contact with it. ( the plastic mount is cracked) I disconnected it and found the wire is long enough to connect the headlight before sliding it into the wing. You could try that and see if the lights work

I will try that tomorrow afternoon! That sounds like a great idea to make sure the connector is secure. Tried to buy the "driving light" or "fog" Light blub from Napa. They said HUH!? "not in the book, part does not exist".... Do I have to buy this blub from the dealership? thanks for all the help.

  • 1 month later...

I picked up mine at advance auto parts here in NJ....but I am having a similar problem. I checked the housing and it seems fine...

Replaced headlight just months ago using the Sylvania Silverstars...one went out recently...replaced it and it still does not work.

moved the newly purchased bulb to the passenger side light housing and it works.

I know the ignition switch has created havoc for others and mine needs to be replaced but I have no other symptoms(IE flaky vent motor operation, alarm issues etc.)

Is your ignition switch sticking or loose?

...but if anyone else can shed some light please do...pardon the pun.

I kinda feel like a Martian getting defeated by germs here... but I just fought this same battle for the last 20 minutes only to discover I had mistakenly changed out the wrong bulb. I can only hope your (or others') problems are so easy to solve!

Tomorrow, I'm changing out the differential pinion seal on my camaro. I harbor no preconceptions that it will be anywhere near as easy.

Ha, I did the same thing several years ago. I spent about an hour trying to figure out what the problem was until I figured it out. Good luck with the new lights. I switched to the Silver Stars too and their great.
