CDC4 Changer System Error

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help me with troubleshooting this problem? I started up the car this morning and got the following message on the PCM2 display:

System Error: CD Changer Not Recognized.

It was working fine yesterday. I had a look and the CD Cassette ejects and reloads fine so it looks like power is getting to the unit. I've also been to the Porsche dealer and the technician said a fault was displayed on his diagnostic machine and he thought it might be a fuse on the CD changer itself. Now if the unit is clearly getting power to eject the CD cassette surely the fuse is ok?

Car is a 2003 MY 996 C4S (UK Spec) with manual transmission, PCM2 running 2007 MapCD and CDC4 Changer.

Thanks in advance for your help

So I had a go at fixing this problem myself and seem to have sorted the problem!

Step1: Disconnect the battery

Step2: Remove the plastic cover surrounding the CD Changer under the front bonnet (hood). THis is held down with 6 screws and three trim clips.

Step 3: Remove the CD Changer unit. It's held on by a 10mm bolt and two spring clips at the base which you just slide the unit out of

Step 4: Under the CD Changer, unclip the MOST connector and reconnect. There's a thumb thingy that you press first before the connector releases

Step 5: Repeat for the amplifier that resides next to the spare wheel

Step 6: Reconnect the battery and put the keys in the ignition.Turn key to position 1 or 2 and then switch on the PCM unit and it should hopefully recognise the CD Changer. In my case the CD Changer was already getting power so it seems to have been a bad connection in the MOST connectors.

Step 7: If everything works, refit everything.
