1986 951 speedometer only works sometimes

I'll be just driving along when suddenly my speedometer just cuts out

Sometimes it will kick back on in a couple minutes

Sometimes it takes a few hours

Sometimes it'll take a couple months

As best as i can tell, it happens completely at random

Any ideas as to why my speedometer would do this?

And also any suggestions as to how to fix it would be greatly appreciated

Probably a bad pulse sender.

did you try banging on the dash? if it starts working then it is usually a connection in the cluster
