modified stock muffler

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just wanted to get some opinions on what I did to my stock muffler to change the sound a little on my boxter.I welded 3/4 stainless pipe from the inlets of the stock boxter muffler to the tailpipe bypassing a little of the flow past the stock muffler straight out of the tailpipe.I also changed the stock headers to high flow performance headers.I posted it on myspace. You will see the pic for the video ..it is a rear shot of a white boxter. Please watch the video, and give me your opinion about the sound. If it sounds bad I am going to replace the muffler.Just to warn you the video quality is terrible, because I used my cellphone...lol.You wont hear the rev until the end of the vid..it is about 42 seconds long. The url is www.myspace.com/bobby976 ...Thank you for your time everyone.. :) :renntech:

The million dollar question is:

How does it sound accelerating up a hill in 4th gear. The dreaded DRONE that 99% of the crappy aftermarket exhaust companies sell will rattle your brain!!

I have cut into several stock Boxster mufflers. Modifying a stocker is pretty easy!! Have welder will travel!

Well to tell you the truth in higher rpms in 4th or 5th it is very quiet inside of the car, but I can't give too much on the 4th uphill because louisiana is pretty flat...lol.I am only giving my opinion about it being quiet, because I am accustomed to riding in my lotus...very loud inside.Well i will try to make a new video to post driving the car. This time I won't use a cell phone

I think it sounds pretty good. Can you provide a quick technical writeup on the procedure?

Thanks

Looks like you did the Oettle's or Pedro bypass. I have it on my '02 S with Fabspeed secondary bypass pipes and love the sound. Nice deep idle, pleasant cruising sound, but GT3 ripped sound at full throttle starting around 3800 rpm.

One of these days when the Chicago winter relents, I'll get a sound byte.

I actually saw it on oettle and said to myself why would I order it from Germany when I can do it myself for free :) ..I actually had everything at my house to do it with..It took me about three hours to take everything apart..weld my mods, and reassemble. It wasn't too bad..I was amazed after I cranked the car for the first time..had a permasmile for a little while...lol.I will post a couple of pics very soon..With some instructions....Now I wish I would have taken more photos during the job...

Yeah!! sounds good!! I pointed out in another thread, this is what Porsche did on the "Technique" sport muffler they sold through the dealers. They just dumbed it down a little with different tips and added an electronic control to it :)

Very few people innovate, lots of people imitate (not aimed at you) :)
