tiptronic tranny switch

Recommended Posts

2002 c4 tiptronic

My back up lights aren't working and the mirror doesn't adjust down when I shift into reverse. In reviewing posts for manual tranny cars this seems to indicate the back up swith isn't functioning. The guys at Sunset said there is only one switch on the tiptronic and it controls back up and neutral safety function (probably other things to). This is an expensive part and I want to make sure I don't chase parts. Bulbs are good so that doesn't seem to be the problem just no juice when I shift into reverse to the lights. Fuse also controls other items that function fine so fuse isn't issue. Other thoughts on what to try?

1/ Is the indicator light on when the shifter is in reverse? 2/ If you have a electric diagram of the switching in the neighborhood, check the wiring in the switch connector for 12 Volt and make a bridge. If the back up lights are on now, then the switch is faulty.

I assume by indicator light you mean by the shifter? And just jump the switch and see if the light works, right. Power to the switch, bypass the switch and if lights work has to be the switch, correct?

Loren, I checked when I got home. The indicator light on the dash lights up when I shift into reverse. The mirror and rear light do nothing. I will trace the circuit at the switch and bypass the switch to see if the back up lights come on. If they do I assume time to spend the money and buy a new switch.

thought I added a reply last night. When I got home I checked and when I shift into reverse the indicator light on the dash does light up. I will try bypassing the switch and see if the back up lights work. If they do then I assume it has to be the switch.
