hood/trunk warning light

Recommended Posts

I have an 04' 996 Targa with 12000 miles. It is new to me & the warning light for the hood/trunk was on when I purchased the car. After a few days of driving it went off but occationally re-lights & then goes off by itself. The battery is original & was in a low charge state when I purchased the car. I think the battery is still weak as the starter seems a bit slow. The dealer can't figure it out because the warning light is off when I take it to them. Is this a bad sensor or maybe a bad battery? How to test and/or fix the sensor would be appreciated. Thanks

If the battery is nearly 5 years it old then it's time has come and gone. I would replace it before it strands you somewhere.

Chances are the warning light is an intermittent microswitch in the front latch.

Thanks Loren. Are there instructions on the site for how to replace that micro switch that you can point me towards.? Cris

It's been covered here before a few times. It is inside the front latch mechanism.

Checked the sensor without success. Replaced the battery & voila! Light is off. Thanks much
