Doors Lock/Unlock While Driving

Recommended Posts

I have an 2000 996 and recently noticed that my doors will lock and unlock periodically while I'm driving. Sometimes I press the dash switch to unlock the door and the horn beeps twice, interior lights come on and the lock remains engaged. The lights dim after a few seconds. Sometimes while unlocking the door with the key remote the horn will beep twice. The car is certainly trying to tell me something I just don't speak beep. Please help!

You need to put the Durametric software, a PST2 or PIWIS tester on the car and test the alarm system.

Any of the tools mentions above will tell you exactly where in the alarm system the problem is.

Have you made any progress in finding the fault yet? I have exactly the symptoms you describe.

No progress. Haven't taken the car in for the test. It's taking me a while to "pucker up" :) Although the beeping and clicking is "driving me up the wall".

Just received assessment. Water damage to Alarm Control Unit under driver's seat. Alarm Control Unit needs to be replaced. This was likely caused by clogged drain ( I have noticed moisture on floor behind drivers seat before). I could live without an alarm at this stage however, I'm told that it's not possible to disconnect the alarm system. I read that these units have to be programmed so I suspect it's not likely a DIY job if all you have is a set of metric wrenches (like myself). Also, unless I can find the "key code" I'll need to purchase new keys to remotely lock/unlock the car.

Everything you said is true.

New alarm, new keys if you can not find the original key codes (because they can't read your old codes from the dead alarm control unit). Sorry.

I'm very sorry that it turned out to be an expensive fix but hopefully this will help make people more vigilant about moisture damage. At the first hint of water in the passenger compartment we should all make it our life's mission to track it down and correct the issue. I cant even begin to comprehend the amount of money Porsche has made off the unwitting owners of leaking Boxsters. :cursing:
