boxster engine light, please help

Recommended Posts

did 4,5,6, head gasket and cannot get engine light to shut off. the code said its a misfire on 4,5,6. been through the book and cannot get the light to stay off. i did the job 12k ago and car runs mint. inspection time is coming and it will not pass with the light on. my friend at the dealer says it could be a lot of things and porsche will just start changing things until its fixed. has anyone had this issue. thanks very much in advance. car is a 98 tip.

thanks for the quick reply, codes 1324, 1324 sensor 2, 1539, 0160 sensor circuit and no activity detected in bank 2. i have had the head off a dozen times. i though from the first code 1324 that i had misaligned the chain. if so, i cannot tell. the car runs great and has great acceleration. i have already changed the vario solenoid with no luck.

P1324 Timing Chain out of Position, Bank 2 - Below Lower Limit

P1324 Timing Chain out of Position, Bank 2 - Above Upper Limit

- Allocation of outlet camshaft to inlet camshaft not OK.

This fault can be stored only if the engine was disassembled and the allocation of the outlet camshaft to the inlet camshaft was incorrectly set.

Your timing for the camshafts likely shifted when you did the head gasket.

P1539 Camshaft Adjustment, Bank 2

Actuator triggered, no active position.

- Open circuit in triggering wire.

- Open circuit in B+ supply.

- Actuator faulty.

This might be related to the P1324 - you need to fix that.

I had a similar issue with my 97 boxster. Camshafts were out of alignment when I bought it.

You can remove the cam cover and the cams and the varia cam without removing engine.

You do need to drop it off the front mount a bit. Mine was only 1 link out. Car ran good with timing like this,

only CEL kept coming on. There is a thread here with some pictures.
