Pin outs for M490 HAES 4x40w Amp?

Recommended Posts

I recently installed an Eclipse AVN2454 head unit in my 2001 Boxster and am having a couple of audio issues - generally the sound is weak and more importantly the nav voice guidance is almost inaudible.

I'd like to try bypassing the HAES 4x40w M490 stock amp and powering the speakers directly from the head unit.

Does anyone have the pin outs (or color/cable mappings) for this amp?

Also, any thoughts on where to connect the head unit directly to the speakers? Will I need to run new cables from head unit through the firewall and connect in where the amp is or is there someplace easier to tap into the exist dash and door speaker wires (ie closer to the head unit)?

Thanks!

Have you tried our Search?

This has been covered many times before.

Hi Loren,

I'm sorry if this post was redundant. I've moderator a few boards in my day and I know how frustrating that can be. Rest assured that I did spend a few hours searching and reading other threads before I decided to post. I seemed to find some info related to other amps (generally 6x40s as I recall) but nothing specific to the 4x40 (and I wasn't sure whether or not it was different). Probably just a function of being a Porsche novice and not knowing the right terminology to search for.

At this point I just removed the speakers and was able to figure out the pin outs by tracing cable colors back so I'm good to go.

Btw - I'm glad I found this place. Not only were several threads helpful as I installed a double din nav system and then by-passed my stock amp, but i've also gathered several ideas for other cool DIY projects that I will tackle soon. Keep up the great work!!

What about a diagram or spec sheet showing the M490s channel output frequancies? I'm looking for the watt and hz ranges for the doors. I replaced the default speakers, but was told the door is only outputs lows and would not take advantage of a full range speaker. The speakers have a 45-20K range, but I still hear "flat" base sounds. Someone said I might need to put inline filters to match the amp output.

Thanks,

Kerry
