996 Oil Burning Smell?

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a 2004 C2 Cabriolet. It has 26,000 miles and is in great shape. The RMS was just replaced and I have inspected the car carefully (while up on a hoist) to confirm that there is no oil leaking anywhere. Despite this, after the car has been running/driving for 10 minutes or so, I always notice the smell of burnt oil when I come to a stop. There is no smoke; no leaks; no nothing! Just a smell of burnt oil from the rear of the car. I took it back to the dealer and, while they acknowledge the smell, can't find the source. Any suggestions?

Thanks much.

Mine smells like that to so did every one of the 996 that I test drove. I walked away from a couple of them because I thought it was the clutch burning or something. After getting tired of shopping I just ignored it, lol. Although I have a feeling my smell was coming from the little (cam sensor seal????, the part right next to the front spark plug. I bought a new one just haven't had a chance to install it yet. You might want to check for some build up there by the shield for the spark plugs. Once I cleaned mine up good, I found the leak, and since the dealer had an abundance of them its probably a common issue.
