'99 Boxster Rear Trunk Release Lever

Recently, my rear trunk release lever ceased operation. The lever, when pulled upon in normal fashion, is very loose, as if the cable has come off some how. Checking the cable in the trunk reveals a normal, taut cable to the actual release mechanism. Could it be that the cable has come off at the lever or do I have a more substantial problem elsewhere. Thanx in advance for any help.

Jean just broke the cable where it attaches to the lever. Remove the lever assembly and see what is going on.

Yeah I went in there with the info TP gave me, it was not that bad but make sure your 5 mm alan key is long enough to reach the tension bolt but short enough to get access the third bolt, there are access limitations to the third bolt once you pop off the plug.

I do not know what kind of allen tool you have, but if you have problems getting to the 3 allen screws than you might want to unbolt the seat and slide it out of the way so you have more clearance.

And remember you do not have to remove the 3 screws. Just give them about 4 turns.

Along these same lines... I took a look at a friends 2000 that is having a hood release issue. When she pulls up on the lever there's resistance (same feel as my '99 AFTER the lever has been pulled once) but no mechanism sound and the hood doesn't pop open the 1/2 inch. I thought a hood spring might have snapped and the dead weight was preventing it from popping up, but I was unable to raise it the 1/2 inch when prying with my finger tips. After reviewing other posts on similar issues, I still don't have a good sense if there would be the resistance I'm feeling if the cable was broken. Any thoughts?

If she has the remote, does it pop up when the rear trunk button is pushed?

Her rear trunk is operating normally, it's the front hood that doesn't want to cooperate.

Thought you meant the rear.

Do you mean you cannot get the front opened at all even if you stick your fingers under the edge and pull while someone else pulls up on the lever in the door sill.

So far I've just pulled up on the release and let it return to the starting position before trying to stick my fingers under the edge. No movement whatsoever. I'll get some help and try your suggestion...
