OBC "hack" question - sorry if it's been covered before

Recommended Posts

My 99 Carrera 4 does not have ther 4th stalk. If I install the OEM 4th stalk as detailed here is there any additional wiring needed? or with the 4th stalk installed I simply need to visit the dealer and have the OBC enabled?

Sorry if it's a dumb question but I've read several posts and reviewed the fantastic PDF install procedure and can't tell if wiring is needed or not.

thanks!

Here is one for using a switch rather than the 4 stalk control

http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/obc/

And another with the stalk

If you google OBC Hack you will find a long list of sites with info. I did the switch hack a couple of years ago, then bought a 4 stalk control, but it is still sitting in my work room, one of these days I will get to it.

just to clarify if the OBDC is turned on the tacho will display the outside temprature?

what does it disply if the OBDC is not turned on?

and would this apply to a '98 build 996 C2?

Thanks,

Brad

It is OBC as in On Board Computer as opposed to OBD which is On Board Diagnostics.

Yes, on a MY98 996 turning on the OBC with a PST2 or PIWIS tester will display the default outside temperature in the display.
