New to owning 996

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Am completely new to the 911 game and have been looking to buy one for the last 4 months.

I have finally found one....but there is a problem...possibly.

Car I am looking at to possibly buy is a 911 (996) carerra tiptronic (2 wheel drive) 1998MY

Becker sat nav, electric memory seats, upgraded speakes, silver with a dark grey interior

Have seen it twice now and all the history rings true.

It has an import code of C26...Singapore or South Africa ...could this be an issue for a UK car?

Log book and RAC vehicle check (which came bck with a big tick) state that it has a 3.6 engine...were these only manufactured for post 2001 cars or where they fitted to earlier models?

If so where can I find performance specs for a 1998 3.6 engine?

When I have used the VIN decoder here at Renntech it states that it is a 3.4.

Any Ideas on the above and more imortantly should I buy it?

Many thanks

Regards

Aran

:welcome:

C26 = South Africa

A MY98 Carrera would have a 3.4 liter engine from the factory.

If I were buying I would find out more about he car's history and any repairs.

Thank you for that Loren

1st recorded 12th August 1998 in this country (UK) as 3600cc

All bills for work seem fine.

Had both head gaskets replaced at Tower Porsche in London September 2008 - this is the only major bill £6k of engine out/strip/ back in

Many thanks again

A

Sorry, my point was perhaps the engine was changed (sometime in the last 11 years) to a 3.6 liter - and whether the records show that change.

The 3.6 liter engine did not come out until MY2002 and would require some other changes (like DME, and fuel lines).

As I said, I would do a lot more research on this car - have it inspected by well known Porsche shop.

Some things do not sound right...
