Hi

I have a 996 2000 C4 with 100K km(60K miles) which I bought couple of mounths back. The service offered to go thru a chip tunning which they say it will increase the HP by 30 and will not need too much of parts replacement.

I had a major service which they changed the all lower control arms and forwards , which I am not sure if it was neccessary (the car feels more stable now or maybe I just feel like that after all I paid).

So I am again not sure about what the service offered , does that tuning really works ? or will it create other problems ?

All the best

Yes the tuning will help but you will not get 30hp. The chip tuning works best when combined with Exhaust upgrades (headers, mufflers, cats.) Can get very expensive. If you jsut do the chip and mufflers you will notice a bit of difference. Better throttle response and sound rather than increased hp.

The chip tuning will not create4 problems if done properly. See if you can arrange to drive a car they have performed the service on and see what you think.

And a car of that age age probably did need those suspension components replaced.

Welcome!! :welcome:

'Chip' tuning from a reputable manufacturer will not create any problems for your car. What's important to understand about this kind of tuning is that it makes its power by eliminating the safety margin the factory put into its timing/mixture parameters to allow for varying fuel quality and octane ratings. Once you've done this to your car, you have to avoid regular gasoline.

My car has Revo's ECU flash, and EVOMS intake and exhaust. I have never dyno'd the car, and I avoid debates about increased power. What I can tell you is that the combination changes the character of the car very distinctly and very much to my liking. IMO, that's how you have to look at the ROI on this kind of mod.

Enjoy your car!

thanks for the feedback

I think I should test some car that has gone thru that mod and see if I really want it or if it really worth the cost

best

mmb :)

i actually have the GIAC flash coupled with the EVOMS and PSE.

i had the ECU back to stock for a week. could i tell a diff?

none at all.

I don't doubt you. But remember that the ECU is adaptive, chip or no chip. Just as an example, if I did nothing but urban commuting for a week and then 'unchipped', I wouldn't notice a difference either. Just like the stock car, the differences are more obvious the harder you drive it.

Each to his own, but I wouldn't want the guy left with the impression that ECU flashes do nothing at all.
