An easier way to install hardtop spin locks in 987 boxster?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

OK, so I have all the hardtop spin lock parts and bolts ready to install in my 987 boxster. According to some documentation I have read it appears that the soft top has to be removed to install these, unlike the procedure for the 986. It seems when porsche redesigned the top they neglected to leave enough clearance for the bolts to slip past the top frame. It looks like a time consuming proposition.

Has anyone found an easier work around then removing the entire soft top?

BTW, this is for a zeintop DIY kit I received a few weeks ago. I want to prefit it on my car before I paint it.

Thanks!

Hello,

I have had my zeintop since early spring and I have started to install the spinlocks several times with no success. It definitly appears that the top has to come off. If you find and easier way please let me know. I will do the same. Have you actually ever seen the zeintop on other then in pictures? Mine is getting painted this week so the push to install this spinlocks is becoming more urgent. Hey what part of maryland are you from?

Hi All, i had some degree of difficulty with the spinlocks, i used a dremel tool to shave a very small section off , i was very careful to make the cut clean .after all said and done when the top is in the position for install the section i cut was completly hidden by the frame. i wish i would had known this before, i wouldnt have cared so much, .there is one problem with the zeintop, you'll never want to take it off once its on. it looks that good.
