Hello out-there!

What are you getting for mileage on your 997-2's. I'm driving a coupe and indicating 18.8 MPG most of the time. I don't drive it very hard but I don't shift with the indicator either, (6 speed manual). I don't like the way the engine sounds at less than 1600 rpms. Only have 3600 miles on the odometer. The owner's manual states that oil and fuel consumption gets better as breakin proceeds. At what mileage are these cars considered broken in?

Any opinions, comments or generalizations would be appreciated!!!!!

Thanks!!!!!

I have an 09 C4S with 9800 mostly highway miles. I drive a mix of aggressive and not-so-aggressive driving and I believe my computer indicates I get a combined mileage of about 23 mpg. I have gotten as good as about 27 mpg driving at up to 75 mph on a 300 mile trip over fairly flat terrain.

Mine will pass everything on the road except a gas station! As little as 14 around town, but rarely past 20 on the highway so far. If I stop constantly blipping the throttle and insisting on double-clutch-heel-and-toe down-shifting when coming to a stop (a totally useless habit, but it's fun!), my in-town mileage has been improving to a downright near Prius-like (wink wink) 16 mpg! My highway/freeway mileage is still dismal, because I can't help nailing it at around 4 Grand; the power and acceleration are intoxicating! The wonderful racket it makes doesn't help either!

Oh, and for the record, mine's got near 40K miles on the clock, and it hasn't exploded yet--knock on wood! Oops! Just noticed that this is a reply to a 997.2 post! My apologies, but maybe it'll help the 997.2 owners not to hold high expectations for politically correct fuel economy.

I have a 2009 Carrera S with PDK with 4000 miles on it......I recently took a 1400 mile trip and averaged 72 mph and got 29.1 mpg while driving in regular mode most of the time......In town I get 19-20 and drive in the Sport mode almost all the time.

Sounds right.

Our '01 C4 averaged 25MPG throughout europe, ~1500 miles, much of that on the Autobahn not going slow.

Once in a lifetime event so I wasn't paying much attention to break-in procedures.

It's apparent that the new design engine is far easier on petrol :D

Yes, with all these continuing technological improvements at some point in time maybe they'l begin downsizing the engines.

DFI, variable displacement engine oil pumps...

Toyota is now using extended VVT-i to change the CR from 13:1 to 10:1 as the engine goes from low and moderate loading to heavy.

Can a positive displacement continuously variable speed SC (no throttle plate) be far away..??
