Help - How do I fold rear seats so they can lay flat?!

Recommended Posts

I am trying to fold my rear sear bottoms up so I can fold the tops down to create a totally flat space from the trunk. I can fold the rear seat bottoms up but only to about 45 degrees. I need them to go 90 degrees so when I remove the headrests, I can lay the seat tops totally flat. The owners manual does not help and searches yield no results. If I push hard and force it I may break the seats. I have tried pulling on the strap in all directions. This is frustrating.... What is the trick??!! :(

Pull the strap up and forward just a bit. The front of the lower back seats will pop up, don't be afraid to use a bit of force. Once the rear seat bottom is raised you can reach under the back and pivot them forward to their 'standing position', the rest will be obvious.

Yes, bit fiddley but just pull the strap and the bottom section should move forward a few inches and then you can pull it upwards, if you try and just pull it upwards without it going foward it will only get to the 45 degree postion

maybe it is new on 2009 or just Turbo models but my seats on the back would not fold flat. they turn only abot 80 degrees out of 90

Great tip!  To get the seat to go past 45 degrees, the trick is to:

(1)  With the seat in its normal position, pull the strap sharply UP such that the seat moves forward an inch or so.  (If you don't do this, it will get stuck in the 45 degree position when you lift it.)

(2)  Once the seat has moved forward an inch or so, the seat bottom will lift to a full vertical.

There's always a trick!
