Broken sun visor? Help please-

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, I noticed my passenger side sun visor hanging lower than the driver's side. Flipped it open, and noticed the spring mechanism seemed shot. I'm not talking about the vanity mirror flap, but the entire sun visor itself. It just seems to hang low, and doesn't stay all the way in the up position. Is there a fix to this, or do I need to order a whole new sun visor?

Sorry if I'm missing something, but I have run multiple searches on this board for this problem prior to posting this question, but from what I've seen, all of them talk about how to replace the illuminated mirror flap part inside the sun visor, and not how to repair the spring in the sun visor itself. My entire sun visor is loose (my vanity mirror works fine), and when I put the sun visor in the up position, it just falls back down about 2 or 3 inches. If you could link me to the archive pages where it covers this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Loren. I did actually see that post when I searched the topic, and I'm sorry if I'm missing something, but that thread looks like it addresses how to remove the sun visor mirror assembly from the visor itself. I have no problems with my mirror assembly being loose or malfunctioning, so I don't see a need to remove the mirror assembly. My problem is that the entire sun visor cannot stay in the up position (meaning, when I flip the visor up towards the roof, it just flops back down about 3 inches). Are you saying that I need to dissassemble my mirror assembly within the visor to get to fix the spring that keeps the sun visor in the up position?

There are no springs - it is a push fit on the mounting rod.

You will either need to replace the visors and/or mounting pins.

or perhaps some way to tighten the fit on the visor (tape? or ?).

The visor pulls right off the mounting pin.

Ok, thanks. Guess I'll be doing some dissassembly work tonight. :)

I was able to get a 'almost' like new one from LA Dismantlers...after cleaning it up it looked like new. Be careful when you go to remove the screws in the front pillar... they are held on by a cap nut on the inside of the pillar.... if one breaks free... well you can imagine my issue....the dealer corrected it quickly, I on the other hand struggled....

A quick dose of penetrating fluid will loosen up the nut /screw. Then you can easily replace it.

Cheers,

m2

SThanks for replying, I can’t find a second hand one very easily and Porsche want £175 for a new one 👎

i took matters into my own hands and drilled a very small hole through and inserted a pin, ok it only stays in the fully up position now or with no pin in fully down

fully up suits me just fine.

thanks  again

Neil
