The other day I parked my 1999 996 C4 ROW further back in my driveway than usual, such that the nose was higher than the tail - only by 6 inches or so, nothing like The Streets of San Francisco.

When I started up a couple of days later there was loud tappit (and possibly other) noise which disappeared after a few seconds.

I checked the oil next day when on the level - sensor and dipstick at 100%.

Some emulsion in oil filler - I hear that's normal (should I remove it?)

I have since repeated the experiment cannot get the same result (which is good)

Any ideas chaps?

Danny

Both conditions are normal. The engine oil temp has to get over 80C to start to burn off the moisture suspended in it. The noise is most likely a hydrualic lifter that has bleed down. Keep an eye on things just to make sure it's nothing more serious.
