Sloppy Shift Gate Question

Yesterday, I took a test drive in a MY01 Porsche Boxster. The car has 77k, it appears the car wasn't maintained as well as some mechanically. It appears it needs brakes and possibly a new clutch. The shift gate has a lot of physical play when in gear and it appears to want to pop out of gear very easily.

Do you think replacing the clutch will eliminate this issue or is this only the beginning of a bigger problem?

Also when first started valve noises could be heard very load, however after a short run this seems to have disappeared - any concern? Note: The car had not been started in several months.

Can anyone provide me with some rough estimates (parts only) for some of these repairs so I can make a reasonable offer?

Most popping out gear problems are not cable or linkage - in most cases they are worn synchros. This would require a replacement transmission or a rebuild.

Unless you are looking for a "project car" I would pass on this as there are much better used Boxsters out there (IMHO).

Look for another car. Like Loren says there are many, many great Boxters out there for sale. This one will be a money pit...You don't want to go there.... Take it from me.. :cursing:
