Just cleaned throttle body and runs like crap now

Clean the throttle body, wasn't running bad. Just figured it was time, put back together and won't stay running. Just put in a new MAF 1 month ago. Unplug the MF and runs fine. Took apart, redid and the same thing...running like crap. Also, alot of white smoke for the tail pipe. AsI stated, it was running pretty good before the throttle cleaning....and the white smoke scares me, hate to drive it and blow the engine...any help on x-mas eve,,,,Oh I did unhhok the battery to reset everything, same results....thanks

What did you use on the throttle body? And, did you use the same on the MAF?

MAF's should only be cleaned with special MAF sensor cleaners. We have seen problems when they are cleaned with carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner.

It is 1 week old, just put it in 1 week ago, was runnig fine before....don't think that is it... cleaned MAF just to see and still the same...help...running without MAF, how long can I run without it and the smoke stopped

Then try cleaning the MAF with MAF cleaner. If that does not work you will likely need to replace it.

Any check engine light? How much cleaner did you use for cleaning? It might take awhile to completely burn through the engine. Were you careful when opening the throttle bodies for cleaning? I had one example were a customer cleaned the throttle body and held the plate open with a plastic dowel and managed to damage the throttle plate.

Try disconnecting the battery again for a few minutes,re-attach the cable and then leave the ignition key on for one minute,shut key off then start engine. Leave the MAF sensor connected and never disconnect electrical components while the key is on or engine running.

Yesterday I replaced the serpentine belt and for better access removed the intake plenum and tubes between airfilters and plenum. After I thought I had put everything back together correctly I started the engine. I died right away. Turned out that I forgot the reconnect the electrical connector to the throttle body. After correcting the issue I started the engine again and it ran very rough. Turns out I put back one MAF sensor tube the wrong way. Corrected that and it still ran very rough.

Connected the Durametric cable and 5 to 10 fault codes showed up in memory. Cleared them all, restarted the engine and runs like charm again.

Moral of the story:

-Don't run the engine until you are 120% positive all is installed correctly.

-Even though everything is properly installed (mechanically) a bunch of faultcodes in memory will prevent the engine from running properly.

-Durametric rocks!

What about this, I had to think what all happened...The idle control valve wouldn't come off the throttle body,I never removed it or cleaned inside of it. I removed the 2 screws and it wouldn't release and I didn't want to force it, if I pull on it, should it just release or do I have to put the butterfly in a certain position, and I also didn't spray any cleaner in the other electricial part that had the green gasket, I will try that and see what happens. I can remove everything in 15 minutes after doing it twice....Does not cleaning the idle control valve sound like the issue. I hate to pay a shop to fix this because I know it has to be something simple and they will charge who knows how much.

Can you be more specific as to the parts that you are describing. Maybe the PET (page 67 in particular) can be of help here.

Let's try this again....cleaned the throttle body, couldn't get the Idle speed motor off (did nothing with that), put back together, runs like crap, use throttle body cleaner, doesn't want to stay running as it idles...could possible the idle speed controller that I didn't pull off have anything to do with this issue, car was running fine before, just off a bit on the idle. And should the idle speed control just pull straight off, didn't seem to want to pull off

That's the idle speed motor and does not operate the main throttle plate. Retrace all your steps to see if you missed anything.

Won't stay running long enough for code to come on or drive to autozone...will it give a code with the MAF unplugged that I'm looking for...that's the only way I can drive it

Have you checked for pending fault codes?

I suspect that something is not connected or a hose is not properly fitted.
