Clutch problem...has anyone seen this problem?

I recently had a 3-time malfunctioning clutch that was misdiagnosed. I switched mechanics after the rattling clutch gave out on me after about 1 year of driving with the noise. The tapping or rattling noise was present when the car was idling and it would wax and wane (not there when car was cold for the first start of the day). I was fed up with the Porsche dealer who I originally went to for the clutch repair but the noises kept coming back. They were clearly over their heads and skill level. They supposedly replaced the clutch kit and flywheel twice. A new clutch has now gone in again with my new mechanic, and the car is running fine now without unusual noises. Check out these photos. Has anyone seen anything like this? The central splines of the clutch disc that fit along the main shaft have completely sheared off. Car has never been tracked or abused. Any thoughts?

By the way, this is off a 2002 C2 at 43K miles.

The part number is 997.116.013.10. Wow! Is a 997 clutch disc compatible with a 996????? The pressure plate is 996.116.027.06. Does anyone know if it is normal to mix the 2 parts? There was no damage to the input shaft. The new clutch and transmission perform beautifully without a peep.

The original clutch disk part number for a 2002 is 993.116.013.06. The superceded part number (shown here on Renntech's price list) is 997.116.013.10, so it would appear that the disk they used is the right one. Many 996.xxx.xxx.xx part numbers have been superceded to 997.xxx.xxx.xx

I had this sort of happen to me on my 2.5 motor in my boxster. I was just driving along and all of a sudden went to the rpm limiter. The **** center spline just let go of the rest of the disc and was just spinning in the middle. I thought my tranny let go. I have a cayman clutch now from the dealer with my 3.4 swap and have had no issues. The clutch that let go was installed by the dealer. Go figure. I am a DIY'R from here out.
