My '99 996 was wrecked in June of 2007 right after I had put a new motor in it (66,000 miles). Didn't replace the car at that time.

Thinking about getting another one now and was reading some of the posts about reliability. Do almost all of them blow up eventually?

If not, any opinions as to which of the years are better? Was there a year when significant improvements/changes were made?

No the M96s do not all grenade. Most do not. Leaking RMSs can be replaced and LN Engineering has an IMS fix or upgrade. Jake Raby can repair some IMS damage and install the improved design.

The 09 has a new design. Not sure if any issues have arisen.
