996 Carrera 18" Tire Cold Pressures ?

It seems to be that the same 36/44 balance should be maintained. Therefore, if you lower the rears you should lower the fronts. I use 33/40. Do make sure though that the tire gauge is accurate - many gauges read higher than the actual pressure.

Just adjust them so they feel comfortable with your style of driving. I personally like the highest pressures in both front and back. 36/44 and while highway driving 40/44. I run bridgestones and this pressure gives me the best feel for the road and the best handling.

I thought the standard Porsche thing was 4 psi difference front to back. That's why I went with the 36/40. I wonder if this is still too high. Given the Boxster experience think something like 34/38 might be worth a try.

On our Boxster I use 32/36 cold and 32-34/36-38 hot at the track. Lower pressures seem to give more grip and less slide.

note that the spec is 36/36 f/r for the 17" wheels/tires, so it isn't as simple as maintaining an x-psi f/r delta.

why the higher pressure in the rear on the 18s? best guesses I've heard yet are a) even tire wear and B) rim protection...

Pre X74 I ran 32F/36R on 18's. It sounds like quite a drop but I felt the car's balance, control and ride was substantially improved.

There's quite a few on this board running at 32F and between 36 and 38R. Not a bad place to start.
