resetting remote fuel release on 06 911S cab

The remote fuel lid release was pulled and now the ring just flops around and the fuel lid will not lock with the rest of the car. Does anyone know how to reset the remote release and why it didn't just spring back into place after it was pulled. Pictures or diagrams would be great.

The pull ring might reset itself once the ignition is turned on or the doors are locked. There's nothing in the manual about it beyond pulling it as an emergency function, but Porsche is usually pretty thorough in their gadget design. And welcome to the forum!
