ABS/PSM Module

Good morning guys,

I have been informed by the dealer that my ABS/PSM module has been 'shorted' out & needs replacing. Vehicle is '02 996TT.

Having a devil of a time locating this 'magic' part on the vehicle in order to obtain a part # and consequently consider repair or replacement from an alternative source.

Have searched many many Porsche parts sites and none of them listing this item? What gives?

All thoughts most appreciated.

Cheers,

J

Many thanks jpflip.........

No mention of PSM with the unit referenced at AA?

So are we to assume then that the ABS control module is part of the Hydraulic brake unit & also functions as the PSM module? Was under the impression that the 'control module' could be removed with out compromising normal braking operation. (no ABS obviously)

Lastly where is this item located on this vehicle?

Cheers,

J

On my car, the ABS and PSM turn on from time to time. This appeared right after the replacement of the suspension. Did you have similar symptoms? And do I understand correctly that you only had to replace the front sensor and wiring?

Pierre suggest you get this looked at ASAP. After my coil-over install I immediately got rare / intermittent ABS/PSM lights that progressively got worse.

Eventually after a few months the new suspension tugged on the sensor wiring harnesses to the point that the sensors shorted out and in turn fried the control module.

Not sure if I have recourse with the shop that did the coil-over install (supposedly very reputable) but needless to say I'm not thrilled with this situation that could have easily been avoided.

Cheers,

J

  • 5 months later...
  • 3 weeks later...

After having spent the whole winter in 'raw-mode' (ie no PSM/ABS) and survived it, I finally brought my good old TT to Sportec for a service at 360'000km. ;)

About the PSM/ABS issue, they found out it was just the ABS sensor on the front right that was cooked. They replaced it and it's now all good. The control unit was still ok.

As a sidenote, I had to replace the brakes (discs and pads) on each corner. Since I have 6 piston, 380mm brakes at the front, the whole thing boosted the bill 'slightly'. Well... I guess I'm now good for another few kilometers!... :D

There was a story about my car somewhere on the net a few years ago, but it's now gone. Anyway, these 2 links could give you some more info:

And I'd of course be happy to (try to) answer any specific question...

Frank, I bought the car in May 2001 (time flies!) with about 7'000km. So I made over 353'000km with it... ;)

EDIT: So I've already driven from the Earth to the Moon! Scary! :D
