Decided to take my dealer up on the offer of a free inspection for my new to me 03 C4 Cab, getting a glimpse of the service records was also a motivator for me.

The top comes up slow, stalls whirrs and moves again, thinking it might be low on fluid I went to the parts counter for the Porsche approved fluid thinking I would be more than prepared if I got everything open and needed to top off the system. A technician came out about that same time (convenient, but lets not get suspicious) and told me that they could run some codes for free and give me an over all opinion on the state of the car. Out of curiosity I asked what a new top costs? The reply---"about $8000.00 eek.gif installed. Talk about an "up sell" WOW !!!???? Is this for real? I was thinking $2 maybe $3K but $8000.00 that seems out of hand. So my question: What is a reasonable cost for a new top? Any other tips are comments appreciated.

I get the car back in a couple of days so I will be sure to have a follow up.

TIA

followup.

Picked the car up and received a detailed write up of potential watch items, no charge. Nothing significant. As far as the top, the technician said he was inspecting all the components and all looked good except the need for topping off the fluid which he did no charge. Top works great now! Still like to see what a reasonable replacement would be, but for the present I am pretty satisfied.

You can get the canvas to be installed on your current frame from an aftermarket top company such as GAHH or Robbins, for about $1,000. Same material as the factory tops.

Are you sure he was not reffering to a HARDTOP for your car? I went to get a hardtop and the Porsche dealer (Main Line Prosce) gave me a price of $7,995.00 (sounds like an infomercial). They came to that price as they would purchase each component of the hardtop seperatly. I went on ebay and bought a perfect one locally for $900.

Rep[laced my CabTop last year for 1,200.00 Total with all parts included.
