04 Caynene S- New Navtech CD's-Need Dealer to Install?

Recommended Posts

This comes from the local Porsche dealer here in Northern Illinois (Chicago Area). They told my wife that they need to do a system update that will cost $80= 30 minutes before we can use the updated (assume 2008 version)Navteq discs? Huh? Is this a PCM firmware upgrade? Paying $80 to have a tech insert a CD seems odd...I probably am not getting the full version of the story here, but just curious-

Thanks!

The update to 3.0 does not come with the 08 CD set. Its also very hard to find a copy out there, if you can find one and are prepared to leave your engine running while it does it you can do it yourself. IF however you balls it up and lose power during the firmware update your unit will be toast.

I have no problem paying the dealer to do the update, if it is a legit deal. Just another $80 on top of the near 400, is starting to push into buying a Garmin portable Nav unit!

I did it myself.. went smooth. Keep engine running and wait. I don't advocate finding someone with the CDs willing to burn you a copy, but I understand that it is possible. I can understand what might drive a 2004 owner to do something like that though considering the fair options Porsche gave us.
