Thoughts On Nhp Exhaust

Getting into buying parts for my 3.4 conversion, and I'm down to either using a FabSpeed or NHP exhaust system.

Fabspeed is about $3K, NHP $2K. NHP claims that there is less drone than other exhausts, and anecdotal evidence on the Internet seems to confirm that. So, I am leaning towards the NHP.

Does anyone on the Board have experience with either one?

I can't address the question of cabin drone, but here is some experience/info for what it is worth.

I use the NHP racing headers and secondary cat bypass pipes on my 986S race car. They look to me to be a near copy of the Fabspeed design. They welds are machine, and look good. They've held up with no problems at all for 2.5 seasons.

I don't put much stock in the claims about HP increase with any vendor - I made the change because as a track car, I was going through catalytic converters every season. Two race shops that have had my car on the rack have told me the size, collectors and design on the NHP is good.

I am still using the stock muffler, but am beginning to get a rattle - sounds like a baffle is coming loose. I will eventually replace, and am happy enough with the fit and quality of the NHP, that I will get the NHP muffler.

IMHO the best muffler for these cars is the DANSK hotdog muffler that is a modified version of the long standing hotdog muffler from the 911. Great sound, no drone. That said, everyone likes different things and mufflers are a highly subjective item. I think the Fabspeed stuff is expensive but most Porsche exhaust pieces are. Having used the Fabspeed and the NHP parts, I would say that to me there is no discernible difference between them. Personally I don't like the short primary design of either as it seems they had one set of tooling made up for the catted headers and simply added a straight section to replace the cat on the catless version rather than designing a proper set of headers when they didn't have the restriction of the cat.
