Engine Compartment Blower Fan Failure

Recommended Posts

Any help would be appreciated; I have a '03 996 C2 Cab and today whilst driving the red temperature light started flashing and a message was displayed in the on-board computer indicating 'Engine Compartment Fan Failure'. I pulled over and checked the engine compartment, but the fan was running.

However, the coolant level was around the minimum mark, so I topped it up. I then re-started the car and all was good for a few mile until the same message popped up on the dash and the temperature light started to blink at me again. I have watched the temperature guage and it has remained well within the normal range, as I can hear the fan running. That said, the fan now appears to be running constantly and continues to run when I switch the car off.

Any ideas on it's cause, would be appreciated.

P.S. I'm currently disconnecting the engine compartment fan when parking up, as not to drain the battery.

Thought I'd also add that I've literally just picked the car up from having the intake tappets (lifters in US) replaced on bank 2. I think that the sensor is located over that side of the engine, so I'll check.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Panic over Guys:rolleyes:; Basically I routed around between intake manifolds to cylinders 5 & 6 and found a bracket with nothing sitting in it.

I further routed around and found that the temperature sensor for the engine compartment had fallen down and was sitting on the side of the block and no doubt cooking. Temperature sensor is not back in its rightful place and staus quo is resumed.
