04 Tt Cab 420 Or 450 Bhp?

Recommended Posts

Just purchasing an 04 TT Cab - just plugged my VIN into the decoder on this site and it stated 450BHP. I thought the 04 TT Cab were 420BHP unless fitted with X50 pack. Is this the case?

Maybe it had the X50 pack fitted.

Cheers

I have an 01 without x50 and the vin decoder says the 450hp for me. I remember this being discussed before, but I can't find the thread right now.

Thanks guys - suspect a glitch in the decoder as I dont think it is a 450BHP. Would have been nice .......

It does have the Tubi sports exhaust - not sure if this adds any significant BHP or simply sounds nicer! Will find out when I pick it up next week.

After an initial producion run of some Turbo coupes in '05, the remaining cars were designated "Turbo S"- most being cabs. Orders were upgraded no matter what the original spec was.

Nobody knew about the "S" until about 12/04.

Up until that, X50 option was required for the 444Hp engine.

If you look at the last page of the MY2005 Turbo brochure (in the downloads section) you will see it was printed in 04/04, so it was no surprise that the S was available for MY05 orders.

I'm sure this debate will rage forever, but it is my understanding that the standard Turbo in all model years from 01 to 05 was 420bhp.  The X50 kit was available as an option, which raised the power to 450bhp.  In 2005, it was available in standard (420) and Turbo S (450) models.  The S had ceramic brakes and other goodies.  The GT2 was 462bhp for MY2001-2004 and 489bhp for MY2005.  That's my interpretation from the UK brochures and Loren's chart above.

I bought a 2002 tt advertised as having the X50 package and, based on Scouser's decoder that said it had 450 hp. It ends up that it did not have the package and I got screwed out of either 30hp or $5-10k (my estimate of the value of the X50 package in a used car) whichever way you want to look at it. If in doubt Loren has a source for decoding the VIN properly.

Pop the boot lid. There will be a label on the underside with all the options that were included at the factory. It will be a pile of 3 character alphanumeric codes. If it has X50 as one of the codes, you have 450HP, if it doesn't you don't. There are numerous websites that decode the options, for example: X54 Stainless Steel Exhaust Pipes or XRC; 18" Sport Techno wheels. Hope this helps..
