Hi it is a 2000 boxster s.driving from 2nd to 3rd noticed no tension in pedal and shift would not go into third. No previous symptoms indicating clutch about to go. Can you help diagnose. Thank you

When you say "no tension in the pedal", did the pedal drop to the floor, or just feel generally weak? Could be a hydraulic issue.

sorry, I meant generally week. there is no signs of a leak

Cracked pressure plate (diaphragm spring) will happen occasionally also.

interesting, the clutch has good movement back and forth would that rule out the clutch master cylinder?

What do you mean the pedal? or the clutch slave arm on the transmission?

The pedal means nothing - if the slave arm on the transmission is not moving then you have a hydraulic problem.

The master and slave work together to push on the pressure plate. Could be one of the three, although typically pedal problems are a hydraulic issue. How many miles are on the clutch? If it's pretty old, I would probably recommend replacing it, and also replacing the master and slave cylinder at the same time. That would 100% fix the problem. Or, you could start with the hydraulics and then replace the clutch if that doesn't fix the problem. That would probably be the most economical way to go. you are correct i had it serviced and it was a broken spring. My question now is could this be repaired using same clutch kit as i felt it was reusable or to replace the kit was the common sense answer

I would replace the complete clutch, pressure plate, release bearing and friction plate. Check also the flywheel for damage and burn marks, the clutch will probably have slipped heavily.
