2000 996 Rear Hatch Release

Recommended Posts

Hey gang!

I have a little problem. My rear hatch release on my 2000 C4 is broken (wire snapped or something let go) I am able to open via the emergency cable in the left tail light. However, I would like to fix the release mechanism. Any ideas or steps I should follow to see what the cause is or how to fix it. I thank you all in advance.

Roch.

so I took it apart at both ends. The cable looks jammed somewhere in the middle. Both ends are intact but I can't move either of them. Is it possible that it's pinched somewhere in the middle? Does that cable run inside the car or on the outside (under the car)?

thanks.

Roch.

Could be the solenoid that locks the levers in the door sill has failed.

See the DIY for dis-assembly and inspection here

Hey Loren,

That's what I used in the first place to disassemble. the solenoid looks like it's working fine (moving in and out when I lock and unlock doors). I disconnected the cable at both ends and it won't move when I pull from either end. Are these prone to seizing (rusting inside)? It feels jammed or pinched. Aaaarrgggg!!! It worked fine up until a few months ago. It just suddenly quit on me.
