I am purchasing a 1988 951. I wanted to know if a LSD is stock on this year and model. If not, can one be added either after market or part from another 944? If so, how? I elevated the rear of my new car and rotated the right tire forward. The left tire did nothing. Should I assume this rear is working properly or is it dis-repair and needs new clutches? Any other tests to run to confirm my condition?

Thanks to all in advance!

Ed

How about 968's? There is a 944 with a 968 running gear I am considering.

thanks,

LSD on the 968 came in 2 forms, Torsen in later cars and Clutch type in early cars. It was a separate option and did not come standard, even in M030 cars.

It seems that the Tiptronic 968 has a form of LSD as standard, but I don't know what type.

The "in the air reverse wheel spin" test does not work for the Torsen type, so i would recommend going back to the seller to determine whether or not it has it.

The M220 option was available as an option. Also the 88 Turbo S (Silver Rose, early part of model year and other colors later in the model year) had an LSD. All 89 Turbos have an LSD. Looking at the option code sticker will show if the car has the M220 option. Option sticker is located under the carpet, to the left of the rear hatch latch.
