Headlight Switch 2002 996

Recommended Posts

Hi, I did an exhaustive search of renntech but couldn't find an article on how to replace the headlight switch.

Here's the whole story: My litronic headllights won't turn on. The fog lights and all other lights work except the tiny bulb right next to the litronic bulb in the passenger side. I disconnected the battery, checked all the fuses, took out both lights and it does not appear that any are burned out. So someone on another forum mentioned it might be the switch (claimed it was common) I'm going to pick one up, but trying to get the old one out, I couldn't do it and I don't want to break anything. Also, the highbeams work too, but only if you press the lever forward, the won't stay on if you pull it back. I got stuck going to work the other day in the dark trying to drive with only the fog lights. So, any help/advice appreciated.

thanks,

Pete

UPDATE: I did manage to get it out by following some boxster instructions I found. Now for 'switch replacement' do I need to replace the metal and red plastic cylindrical part, or the black round part with the 'circuit board' on the back that has the switch position 'labels' on it?

thanks,

pete

dealer said they'll have a switch tomorrow - hopefully that will solve the issue!! fingers crossed.

I've already taken the switch out. should i go out now and disconnect the battery positive first then negative and wait to hook it back up once the new switch arrives/is installed? (sorry i'm not very mechanical - just trying to learn.)

thanks,

pete
